Safety Counts is a Harm Reduction Program focusing on HIV and
Hepatitis prevention. Gift cards, food, and prizes are offered. To
discuss eligibility, call the facilitator at (617) 414-7088. All
Safety Counts activities are held at Project TRUST, 721
Massachusetts Ave., Boston, MA, 02118.
Eligibility Requirements:
- Must have used non-prescription drugs in the last 90 days
- Alcohol use alone does not qualify you for the program
- Cannot be in a treatment program, except for these 3
exceptions:

- Methadone treatment
- Suboxone treatment
- Another harm reduction program
7 Core Elements:
- 2 group sessions
- 1 (or more) individual counseling sessions
- 2 (or more) social events
- 2 (or more) follow-up contacts
3 Non-Core Elements:
- Initial enrollment and eligibility screening
- Post risk reduction screening
- Graduation
Two Phase Program:
- Phase One is four weeks long

- Includes two group sessions, one social event, and one
individual counseling session
- Needs to be completed within thirty days; if not, the client
will be re-enrolled and have to start over
- Can only be re-enrolled twice
- Phase Two is 2-5 months

- Includes a second social event, two follow-up contacts, post
risk reduction screening, and graduation
Other Program Benefits:
- Free and confidential HIV, HCV, and STD testing and counseling
in the same office
- Availability of immediate treatment for positive STD and/or HIV
test at BMC's Infection Disease Clinic
- Identification of risk behaviors and strategies to reduce
risk
- Educational activities around proper condom use
- Free male and female condoms, lubes, and dental dams
- Free needle hygiene kits
- Educational activities around proper use of needle hygiene
kits
- Immediate access to all BMC services
